Danielle and Juan were married on July 17, 2010 in the beautiful mountains of Fairview, NC.

The Ladies got ready in a family home. One with big windows too, which from the photography perspective is great! It is always better to have natural light.

Yellow roses and wild flowers were fasioned into beautifully simple bouquets, perfect summery flowers.

They shared a few nervous moments hiding behind the rough grass, waiting for the fellas to make there way to the officiant, Bryan Robbins an Asheville local.

The Ceremony was lovely. Rain clouds parted and rings were exchanged.
The reception was right beside a lake where the entire neighborhood community had gathered. Plenty of food and dancing!

Dear Friends,

After a lot of debate, we’ve decided to close the retail location on Haywood road. We love West Asheville and we’ve loved having a spot there, but the simple fact is we don’t often use the space and we absolutely don’t need the space. As wedding and portrait photographers we shoot on location and we just don’t have the time to maintain a retail storefront nor to we feel that it’s beneficial to the company to hire someone to maintain the storefront for us.

This news has raised a few concerns with our friends and clients about the welfare of the company. Please don’t be concerned. In fact, Blend Photography is having the best year than we’ve ever had and bookings for 2011 are already exceeding expectations. We’re doing great.

As always, you can still reach us through the website and through email at contact@blendphotography.com. You can also reach Luke at any time at 828-301-1340. Additionally, we are excited to announce that we will be working closely with the girls at Palettes of Perfection on Wall Street in downtown Asheville. We will be using that space for consultations, meetings and a place to display new products.

Emily and Lucas were married in the mountains of Valle Crucis, NC. It was a beautiful easy-going wedding that fit them perfectly. Summer day weddings are great for photographers. The nice weather and long days provide for so many great photos.

The guys, as you may know, usually have plenty of spare time before the ceremony. Lucas and the boys went to record stores where shenanigans ensued.

June was hot. Very hot. So the ladies prepared a sorbet/champaign toast.

Lucas got ready in a classroom. Strange discoveries occurred. Pictured: a Student Manipulative Kit. What in the world? That needs renaming.

The Apple Barn in Valle Crucis as seen from the road. It is a marvelous place to get hitched. The field in front is where to ceremonies usually happen and then after, yard games. Perfect.

Fireflys live large in the rural areas of Valle Crucis. The relatively low levels of light pollution help them to find each other and us them. Little glowing guys were everywhere! The kids had a gret time catching them.

Laura and Greg were married on June 5th, 2010 on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville North Carolina.

The couple's first dance were personalized by Kathleen Hahn of 'I Do Dances'. A great idea for people with two left feet as well as the rest of us.
"America's Largest Home" makes for a magnificent backdrop.

Biltmore's Methode Champenoise Blanc de Blancs Brut, an award winning wine made locally.

Flowers by Melissa with Flora. She made the pinwheels in front of our studio too! Awesome.

Suraj Spa and Salon was a very accommodating host for the bridal party. It's roomy interior and friendly staff set busy minds at ease.
After getting back to the studio and loading the images we noticed that both the bride and the groom were getting ready in front of the mirrors at the exact same time but in two different rooms. I'm not sure why I think this is as cool as I do... but I do! It is nice being able to be in two places at once. :)

Formals tend to be people least favorite part of the wedding day. Even so, it can be an opportunity to get some nice candidy goodness when the people aren't paying attention.

Receptions at Deerpark tend to be candle lit but he long summer days provided some natural light for us, which was wonderful.

Bethany and Allen were married in late May. Though the weather seemed like the rain would sour the day it made some room for a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the Lambuth Inn, Lake Junaluska NC.

It was nice to have so much light in the Beth's preparation room! You would be surprised how much of a difference a window makes. Ahh... natural light.

The wedding ceremony at Claxton Farm's new barn went off without a hitch, even though the rain clouds threatened. All went well, as seen in the photos above.

Claxton kept rocking late into the night. Largely thanks to the good tunes coming out of the band "Menage" of Haywood rd fame. They said they all got together at Westville Pub, just down the street from our Blend Studio.

Autumn and Ivy's Time Travelin' Victorian Picnic

Last week we got to use some extra creativity. Pre-newlyweds Autumn and Ivy had a vision in mind of what they wanted to do for their engagement shoot. Naturally, the Blend Studio was happy to assist!

Ivy wasn't really asleep here btw. The ground was just surpassingly comfortable that day.

The Costume Shoppe in downtown Asheville was able to provide some truly excellent vintage clothing for our shoot. You can't get top hats just anywhere you know.

An HDR, I know, I know... but I like this one

One of the features of this shoot that I was really excited about was the historical anachronism that allowed me to rationally simulate the Daguerreotype process. It is a method of exposure and printing that has always been interesting to me. Fortunately, the look can be achieved using the modern marvel Photoshop rather then risking mercury poisoning with dangerous chemicals.

You know what is fun? Shooting talented models, thats what.

The Blend Studio was shooting up a storm in West Asheville last week. The photos are for Galina's Hair Studio, a talented local salon. They will soon be featured on their new website.

Another fun feature of this shoot was that it took place inside! No rain, no snow, no... pirate attacks. It was nice to be able to use the shooting facilities we have at the studio, especially with the weather being typically unpredictable.

Special thanks to our lovely models Tori, Lina, Oksana, Kathrine, Kyle (who is more handsome than 'lovely'), Valentina and Alona. Also, thanks to Tanya, Erica, Meredith and Galina for getting everyone so gussied up! It was fun.

We have a couple more shoots planned for them on the way, lookin' forward to it!

Bethany and Alan's eSession

The rain comes down on its own accord. I guess it is better to make use of it than hide indoors. That is basically how it went the other day for Bethany and Alan's engagement session at the Biltmore Estate. We got some really romantically mystic frames that day.

It is wonderful that when a couple loves each other the clouds can't rain enough to dampen their spirits. We all enjoyed the breaks in clouds of course but while it rained the smiles didn't turn. Plus, running around in the mud was fun!

We are looking forward to the wedding day. Sweet people, these two.

Last Saturday we were fortunate to host a presentation by photojournalist Nathan Weber highlighting his recent work on the aftermath of the Haitian Earthquake. His images were both beautiful and heartbreaking. (If you'd like to see some of Nathan's work, please visit Vellum Media )

Well, another year is gone and it's hard to believe. A lot has changed for us this year. We estimate that as a company we shot nearly 100,000 photographs this year. That, my friends is a lot of pictures. That also mean that we've been so lucky to have such wonderful friends and fans. You have supported us through the years and we thank you. Merry Christmas.

The studio will be closed until the end of the year, but we will still be available for appointments and would love to hear from all of you. This years New Years resolution #1 is to stay in better touch with all of you, including far more frequent updates to this blog and the Facebook site. We're also going to be launching a new site (hopefully) sometime in January so be on the lookout for that.

We love you all, thanks for letting us live our dream.

Luke and I had the good fortune to shoot Megan and Bobby's wedding in late September. The day was rainy but that did little to change the moods of these two marvelous people. In fact, the rain just made everyone get a little closer and dance a little longer in the main hall of Pinebrook Mano r .

Blend Photography is moving to West Asheville! We've been holding back on the news, but the handshakes have been made, the lease has been signed and we are opening a brand new storefront studio on Haywood Road. The space is going to include a full portrait studio, gallery space, meeting and at least copy of Guitar Hero. We've also got a few exciting projects in the works... stay tuned.

We've had the greatest time getting to know these guys. They were married on August 7th at beautiful Homewood here in Asheville. This wedding reminded me of the end of one of those awesome movies from the 80's. Dylan with Blazin' Sounds put down an awesome soundtrack, there were backflipping groomsmen and at the end of the night the Bride and Groom ended up onstage with a punk band with a mike in hand. Seriously. They got onstage and addressed the crowd at a punk concert. It was awesome.

I just wanted to thank all of you for showing us such overwhelming support these past two weeks. Your kindness (and a lot of help from American Express) have gotten us up and running again. The studio now has a shiny new alarm system and the windows no longer open, but that is a small price to pay for piece of mind. We're going to be shooting a lot over the next few weeks to break in our new gear so any of you that happen to be photogs (or always wanted to learn) get in touch. We are all about shooting with friends.

Burglary

Hi everyone. By now many of you know that our studio was burglarized sometime on the evening of Sunday the 26th. The criminals got away with three camera bags with a lot of stuff in them.

Peter and I debated whether or not to put this out to our clients, friends and community or just to leave it a Police matter. We have decided that burglarizing a small business (or any business) is a community issue and so the community needs to know. We also want the individuals that committed this crime to know that this is not something that has been forgotten. They will get caught.

On that note, I am personally offering a $500 reward of honest money to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the crime.

To all of our clients past, present and future. We love you and thank you for the support that you have offered us this week. Our priority is to be there for you and to preserve your memories in a beautiful and enduring way. I want you to rest assured that YOUR PHOTOS ARE SAFE. No computers were stolen or lost and the photographs are remotely protected regardless. The cameras that were stolen are in the process of being replaced and we will be back at full operating capacity by mid next week.

I am writing this against the advice of many, but I think our community needs to know what is going on and we would be grateful for those that keep an eye out for anyone in the sudden possession of Canon professional camera equipment.

Once again, thank you all for supporting us in this. The next post will be more cheerful I promise.

Courtney and Seth were married at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Asheville on June 27th. (These two are the super cute couple with the umbrellas that we got so many comments on). After the service, they headed over to On Broadway to get down. Asheville favorites Orange Krush rocked the house and the wedding party danced until the end. I'm pretty sure that almost every guest was on the floor when the band opened up with some Jackson Five "123". It was pretty sweet. Courtney and Seth, we love you.

We did an awesome engagement shoot with our new friends Myra and Andrew last night. A little pizza, a few drinks, one hard rocking waiter with a touch of Tourette's syndrome and then we were off to watch the Asheville Tourists demolish the competition. Now that we have a moment to reflect on this amazing summer, we want to share some images from our beautiful clients and their amazing weddings. The lovely Jessica and her husband David were married at the beautiful Inn on Biltmore Estate in May. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day for the celebration.

After a few jars of misplaced jelly* and one bride almost jumping into the fountain (You should have done it Jessica!) we got some great pictures, had a good time and made some new friends. Mission accomplished.

The guys from Blend have been truly blessed this summer. May and June have brought us a great group of new friends, some awesome pictures and few stories to tell (or not to tell). In the last two months we've somehow managed to shoot 10 weddings, four bridal shoots, six engagement shoots, a handful of professional portraits and one rock band. (Toubab Krewe, not Corey McNabb on Guitar Hero)

It's the busiest we've ever been and we want to thank all of you for letting us live this awesome dream. Stay tuned...

Katie and Beau tied the knot on April 4th on the lovely Biltmore Estate. The spring blooms on the first day of the "Festival of Flowers" made it a truly marvelous and romantic Wedding.

The Wedding took place at The Winery. This was new for Luke and I as we had yet to have the pleasure of shooting there. Thank goodness Canon's cameras can click away through the dark, The Wine Cellar is not known for its bright lighting!

I was recently informed that there is a website out there I had to take a look at. Apparently the site was largely about professional cake making. Being in the wedding business allows me access to many fine cakes. Some look cooler than others and the always taste great.

Luke and I had a good time shooting the happy couple's wedding last week at the Biltmore Estate. It was really cold that Friday, some snow was still on the ground. The warmth of friendly people worked wonders to combat the coldest day of the year so far. Rosy cheeks for everybody!

You may be surprised to learn this but Luke and I are unfamiliar with wearing women's clothing. But I've long suspected that wedding dresses are rather difficult to get around in. The above picture proves that theory, bride and her sister are laughing after a couple near trip-ups (and one actual trip!)

Local Wedding Vendors

We've got a big year planned out and it starts with a bang. Tomorrow, Saturday the 10th, we'll be at the Civic Center in downtown Asheville participating in the Asheville Wedding Festival. Please come by and say hi. We love for brides that are interested in working with us to meet brides that we've worked with in the past.

We're also embarking on a close relationship with Palette's of Perfection , a complete wedding and events specialty boutique located on Wall street in downtown Asheville. Come by and see our display in the front window. Some of you may see a few familiar faces!

So as an early Christmas present to all of you loyal fans and Ashevillians, we wanted to let you in on some shots of Toubab Krewe from their November 29th show at The Orange Peel . They were gracious enough to invite us along and gave us unlimited access from soundcheck to after the show. It was the cd release party for their new album Live at the Orange Peel and they really brought the energy for this preformance. Hi guys. Well, the holiday season is here and we have a much needed break for a couple of weeks. Saturday night we spent the evening with some great local photographers. Peter played Guitar Hero and made jello shots that looked like orange slices.

Thanks to Jill Schwarzkopf, owner of Realities Photography for hosting us, and to Regina Holder and the rest of the Pictage user group for organizing the event and being so welcoming to us. Some of these guys have really been great with the support and advice and we thank them.

A few weeks ago we had the fortune of spending a day at Galina's Hair Studio in east Asheville. Galina's clients were great and made for perfect portrait subjects. Here's a little glimpse of what came out of that shoot.

Busy October is finally over

... though we hate to see it go. October always seems to be the most popular month for just about everything in Western North Carolina and this year was no exception. We've arrived at November with a lot of pictures to process for all of you. Thank you to all of you who have made this wedding season such a great time for us. Here are some of our favorite pictures from October. Crystal and Matt were married on the 25th at Boyd chapel. We came away from that wedding feeling like we have a couple of new friends. These guys were really cool and their wedding was beautiful. We hope that you love them as much as we do.

New Studio

Hello all! Sorry that I'm so terrible about keeping this blog up to date. We've been busy moving our studio space. We're still in the Park Place building, but now we've taken over suite #110. It gives us a gallery space, a nice meeting room and a portrait studio. Peter and I also have managed to find a way to have separate office space. We've also managed to shoot seven events in the last three weeks. It's good to be busy, but it makes it hard to get pictures up on the blog. I promise to have something to show off very soon.

With Halloween coming ever closer, we have decided to play a little game of trick or treat. We're giving out cards good for $25 off of our regular portrait sessions. We'll be giving them to local business in batches of 50. All you have to do is go by the business that show up here on the blog and get your cards. Backyard Photoshoot Chapter 1

I caught up with them last night while they were pitching in to build a deck for a friends shower. I have so many pictures from this little shoot, but I wanted to go ahead and show these off. Any aspiring photographers wondering how I got the "softbox" look outside, I was shooting with my 5d with one of Gary Fong's whale tail light diffusers. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Hi guys, I'm in a blogging mood and thought that I would share some of our favorite blogs and photographers with all of you out there. First up is ashevegas, local photographer and blogger of some repute who always has a bounty of interesting posts in any given day. Next up is Edgy Mama who has really gained a huge following and has some pretty memorable posts. Now for a couple of photographers, Mike Belleme is a friend of ours who has been up to some pretty amazing stuff lately. You should definitely swing over and check out his work. One warning though, some may find Mike's Uncle Dirty thread a bit offensive. Lastly, check out the guys at Vellum Industrial Photography. Nathan has been a friend of mine for over a decade and it's really cool to see what these guys are doing in that sector of the photography world. Check them out, most of their work could be hung as art. I hope that gives you cubicle surfers something to check out on a dreary Tuesday.

I hate search engines

Hi guys. So this is probably going to open up the flood gates for SEO spam, but we are really having a fit trying to make the website assessable from Google. It's a notoriously difficult process, but we are really having a hard time. If you type "Blend Photography Asheville" in to Google, we still don't come up. We obviously want people to be able to find our webpage, so... help. I would like to stress, that this is not an invitation for third party SEO companies to flood us with email. We are only going to go with someone on a refferal basis, so trusted friends and clients... if you know someone that practices honest search engine optimization at an affordable rate, please let us know (and thanks for listening to my rant).

A Few Recent Weddings

Hi Everyone. I've got a couple of pics from recent weddings for you. The first is from this past Saturday. Chris and Megan O'Brien were married at Hominy Baptist in Candler with a reception at High Vista country club. It was a beautiful southern wedding, with lots of dancing and one bridesmaid with some serious ups.

She snagged that bouquet like Jerry Rice out the back of the endzone. I was impressed. Congrats to Chris and Megan.

We also wanted to share a nice moment from last month. Nicole and Thomas were married in Weaverville last month with a reception at On Broadway. Peter captured this nice moment after the ceremony.

So, for the first pictures to grace Blend's new blog, we chose the beautiful Jennalee. We did a really fun fashion shoot with her at the botanical gardens last week and it was a really cool time. Hello everyone, welcome to Blend's new website and blog. The fun part of growing as a company is that we get to have new stuff to play with and this new website is no exception. I'm excited about a lot of the features.
